RV5240 Imitation' Waker
Built in 1976 as the "Smit Houston," the 16,000 hp class tugboat was chartered to Greenpeace by its then owner, SmitWijs, in 1990. As part of this process, the crane on the foredeck was removed to extend the forward superstructure to accommodate a 4-ton helipad. Renamed "Waker" by its new owner, "SWI," in 1995, the current vessel, based in Den Helder, will continue to serve with the Dutch Coast Guard until at least 2010. Chartered by its current owner, Svitzer, the vessel is 67.50 m long and has a draft of 6.23 m. Powered by two 6-cylinder Stork Werkspoor diesel engines with an output of 2 x 4,600 hp = 2 x 3,380 kW, it achieves a service speed of 14 knots.
