After the first war year, the German air force management had to realise that the Junkers Ju 87B did not meet the requirements in many areas. The increasingly stronger ground defence and combat aircraft use during the war led to a task restructuring of Ju 87 as a battle flyer. The D version received a stronger engine, a new aerodynamic trim and a stronger armour. Their new task was now primarily the earth combat operation, which also included the tank control using a cannon calibre 3.7 cm. Finally in spring 1944, the conversion work on Ju 87D-3 began to tank hunters of the type G-1 and G-2.
